What did you wish you knew before you studied abroad in South Africa?

Prior to studying abroad in Cape Town I wish I knew that it was a largely white city. I thought that I was going to the motherland, which I was however I was unaware as to how many white people I would have to interact with (often on negative terms) on a daily basis. I probably would have chosen to go to a different African country if I had known how Western and almost European (and segregated) many parts of Cape Town can be.
