Welcome to Connect-Me-Abroad!
My name is Aladrianne, but many folks just call me Dri. While I was at Mount Holyoke College (just graduated in May'16, woot woot!) I studied abroad in England. This was my first time outside of the United States. My study abroad encouraged me to reflect on my American beliefs, customs, and experiences from a global perspective. Additionally, being black and abroad in England, gave me the space to briefly distance myself and reflect on issues of American racism/institutional inequalities, and the heartache and frustrations that stem from them. As a result, I've been more curious about how travel affects the identities of people of color and of their perceptions of the world.
The content of this website is mine alone and does not necessarily reflect the views of the U.S. Government, the Peace Corps, or the South African Government.
As illustrated above, minority students are underrepresented in study abroad participation.
Connect-Me-Abroad is the space I've created to share the experiences and reflections of travellers of color, and to hopefully, inspire others to believe that they can travel too!
Including England I've been to Spain, Italy, Greece and Japan. What's up next for me? I'll be spending two years in South Africa as a Peace Corps Volunteer.
