Selecting my study abroad program wasn’t too hard for me. I knew that I wanted to go to an African country. To be more specific, I wanted go to West Africa. As an African American, history shows that our people were forcefully brought to the America’s from regions in West Africa, so this is where I wanted to go. Studying abroad here was much more than just a chance to get away from campus. It was me bridging the gap that the Transatlantic Slave Trade had created, and being the first person in my family to return to West Africa since my descendants were stolen from their homes. So, when I found out that my school had an approved study abroad program in Ghana, I instantly applied, and now I’m here.
